As one of many small boat sailors in the Forth and Carron river estuaries on the East of Scotland I am concerned that the proposed arrangements for licences to mud wash will do more harm than good. Like our friends in the Blackwater and other places, in the Forth and Carron we often need to mud wash to maintain access to the river and the estuary. Otherwise the silting would, in time, make access impossible.
I fully recognise that humans are just one species who make purposeful use of the unique environment and we should, with the help of regulation, respect and protect the interests of all users and species. It would not be good to reach a situation where small boat users are penalised and unable to afford to use our waters and shores.
We need to make sensitive use of these areas for recreation and quality of life, recognising that large commercial concerns have comparatively larger duties and responsibilities and that the need to protect the marine environment and foreshores applies to all of us .Comment Tags: Carron, Forth, mudwash, Scotland, small boat
