Civil Society – Giving Time and Money

Government wants to build a stronger society by encouraging social action: people giving what they have – be that their time or their money – to support good causes and help make life better for us all.
During the last two years the Government has sought to understand what stops people from volunteering or donating to charities and voluntary groups, for example through the Civil Society Red Tape Task Force and other initiatives such as the Giving White Paper. But we don’t want to stop there. Through the Red Tape Challenge we want to continue to listen to what you have to say, to make sure we’re not missing anything that is causing real problems.
- What problems have you faced when trying to volunteer or get involved in your local community?
- Have rules and regulations prevented you from doing something for others?
- Do you have specific suggestions for abolishing or streamlining red tape to make it easier to contribute?

In the same way that local authorities will enjoy a general assumption of competence, I would like to see volunteers enjoy a similar presumption of good faith in relation to their activities.Comment Tags: presumption of good faith
